Universal Studios Hollywood

Universal Studios is the next place to go if you’re visiting Los Angeles and you’ve already been to Disneyland. Six Flags is probably the next best theme park but there are many equivalents all over the world. It’s more fun if you buy into the history of Hollywood and how films used to be produced rather than visit it under the impression that it’s a regular theme park. It’s also really fun during the months leading up to Halloween when the park is open at night and it’s basically one big themed haunted house.

General Tips

  • Pay the extra money for the fast pass where you can skip to the front of each line once

  • Go on each ride once. The Do-Not-Misses Are:

    • Jurassic Park

    • The Mummy

    • Both Harry Potter World rides

    • Studio Tour

    • Transformers

    • The Simpsons Ride

  • Bring a small, waterproof bag

  • Try and do all the rides down the escalators in one go so you don’t have to go up and down

  • If you go for Halloween Horror Nights and don’t want to be targeted by the actors:

    • Wear all black

    • Don’t make eye contact and pretend to be deep in conversation all the time

    • When an actor approaches you, try not to react. Laugh if you can.

    • Stand in the middle

Food

As you would expect, Universal Studios Hollywood has a lot of very typical theme park food. However! The better options are as follows:

I would also absolutely get a Butterbeer in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and I would buy the Chocolate Frog for the trading card albeit the below average chocolate. I find the Bertie Bott’s Every Flavour Beans a good laugh with friends, too.
